Philosophy of Hapkido
A healthy mind and health body is neccessary for a healthy life. One philosopher once said, "Hapkido training does not just stop at training with techniques, but it develops and enhances physical and mental culture." Hapkido helps develop the body through equal physical and mental training. The balance of the training provides more stability in family and life through Dan Jon, control of heart and lungs. Safe joint twisting techniques stimulate nerves and overall metabolsim, also balancing blood pressure and organs. Hapkido training can delay the inflexibility of old age.

The peak of mental discipline and culture is called sun (serenity in a clear and peaceful state of mind). Sun can be obatined through chung (tranquility of the mind). In Hapkido, through physical movement, one can acheive chung. Thus, through physical movement, one can obtain sun. In other words, one can maintain a calm and concentrated mental state even during the vigorous physical movement of Hapkido.

Hapkido is not merely a martial art, but a way of living and a philosophy of life. Ultimately, students of Hapkido should try to attain sun. When a person attains sun, he becomes a constructive member in society. For this reason, there is no age restrictions in Hapkido. For younger students, physcial development and growth is stressed, while older students, the emphasis is placed on mental development
